Spirit and Matter

Spirit is the first differentiation of space;
and Matter is the first differentiation of spirit.
-Book of Dzyan

Spirit is intelligent; it is intelligence itself,
being powerful enough and free from death and decay.
It is capable of giving its life
even to the dense substance which has been made out of itself,
and which is matter.
-Hazrat Inayat Khan

Spirit and matter are the two names of one life.
The primal aspect of life developing into denseness remains spirit,
and its development into dense form is called matter.
-Hazrat Inayat Khan

We must realize that there is one life
and that it is all spirit;
even matter is a passing state of spirit.
-Hazrat Inayat Khan

Matter is a state of spirit.
-Hazrat Inayat Khan

It is spirit in its denseness we call matter;
it is matter in its fineness that may be called spirit.
-Hazrat Inayat Khan

Matter is a form of Spirit, a habituation of Spirit,
and here in Matter itself there can be realization of Spirit.
-Aurobindo Ghose

It is through vibration, through motion,
that spirit turns into matter.
-Hazrat Inayat Khan

Spirit forces are the animation of all life,
giving life-producing forces
in animate or inanimate forces.
-Edgar Cayce

In reality matter comes from spirit;
matter in its true nature is spirit;
matter is an action of spirit that has materialized
and has become a reality to our senses,
hiding the spirit under it.
It has covered the existence of the spirit
from the eyes of those who look at life from the outside.
-Hazrat Inayat Khan

It is not only spirit that is the being of God;
matter is the being of God too.
-Hazrat Inayat Khan

This web, this Universe,
Expands and contracts
As energy flows;
Expanding through Spirit,
Contracting through Matter.
-Harvey Tordoff

Matter is spirit moving slowly enough to be seen.
-Pierre Teilhard de Chardin

From what we are, spirit;
from what we do, matter.
Matter and spirit are one.
-Philip Pullman

There is no barrier between matter and spirit,
but an interpenetration of the two.
-Grace Cooke

...the Separation or Fall,
when Spirit and Matter became apart and distinct
in operation and function.
-G. A. Gaskell

All that lives is spirit
and all that dies is matter.
-Hazrat Inayat Khan

Just as ice and water are two things
and yet in their real nature they are one,
so it is with spirit and matter.
Water turns into ice for a certain time,
and when this ice is melted it will again turn into water.
Thus matter is a passing state of spirit;
only, it does not melt immediately as ice melts into water,
and therefore man doubts if matter, which takes a thousand forms,
ever really turns into spirit.
-Hazrat Inayat Khan

There is the man who says,
'Spirit is one thing and matter is another thing;
matter is not spirit neither is spirit matter.'
This is a religiously inclined person.
There is another, a materialist, who says,
'There is no such thing a spirit; all there is is matter.'
And then a third person comes along who says,
'Do not mention the word matter of me; there is no matter.
It is only illusion; only spirit exists.'
-Hazrat Inayat Khan
