Water has no shape, its nature is to flow.
If you put it into a vase it will take the shape of the vase.
In this cup, it has assumed the shape of the cup.
If poured into by cupped hands it will take the shape of the hands.
But water has no shape.
It is the same with the consciousness, which is subtler than water.
It similarly has no form,
but it assumes the form of whatever
concept it is poured into of identifies with,
but it will never be the form.
It remains ever its formless nature.
-Anthony Paul Moo-Young, "Mooji"

Water is one essence:
Drunk by a cow it becomes milk,
drunk by a snake it becomes poison.
Attitudes to life create experience of life.
-Zen Saying

Because someone has made up the word "wave,"
do I have to distinguish it from water?
-Kabir

When a river pursues it course,
the flow occasions froth and noise.
it is bewailing all the time.
This goes on all the time, constantly,
until the river achieves tranquility by falling into the sea.
The same is true of the individual self
covering the various stages of the homeward journey
to merge itself into the Universal Self.
Thus, when the lover becomes one with the Beloved,
he no longer wails.
-Moinuddin Chishti

Excitement is the drunkenness of the spirits.
Only calm waters reflect heaven in their bosom.

Of the water drops that fall
Into the stone bowl,
You will feel that all the dust
Of your mind is washed away.
